Tony Press
Today we’re interviewing writer Tony Press. Before settling in Brisbane, he became a lawyer and first worked as a legal aid attorney in Arizona and Wisconsin. After that, he came back to California and started working as a criminal defense attorney, for about 12 to 13 years. After some pretty serious cases and tough experiences, he felt that could no longer continue with his criminal lawyer career. Then, he became a high school English teacher at Jefferson High School in Daly City where he could combine the social experience and sensibility acquired in his previous job and apply it in a challenging environment with struggling kids mostly from low-income families.
Tony started exploring the idea of writing fifteen years ago, and he has already published over a hundred of his short stories and poems. He received two Pushcart Prize nominations.
I thoroughly enjoyed chatting with Tony and learned many things about him that a casual relationship might not discover. You’ll see Tony chatting it up with the regulars at Madhouse Coffee most every morning.
